Albion’s Premier League Season Comparison – 7 games

Published on: Author: Jon Want

Albion’s draw at the Stadium of Light saw them cling on to a spot in the top half of the Premier League, but with unbeaten Spurs up next after the international break, they will do well to hang on into the second half of October.

For once, Pulis cannot be blamed for the Baggies’ failure to win at the Stadium of Light, with Albion playing aggressive football when in possession and the total of seventeen attempts on goal, seven of them on target, is certainly the highest of the season. In fact, Albion have never had more than seven shots on target in a Premier League game under Tony Pulis (they managed it once before in the 1-1 draw at home to Swansea in February this year) and only once have they managed more than 17 attempts on goal (22 in the 1-0 win over Newcastle in December 2015).

With arguably the top three form teams of the season so far to come in the next three games for the Baggies, Pulis was obviously keen to get all three points at the Stadium of Light, but that is something he is yet to do in his managerial career.

While ninth place appears to be an encouraging start, the Baggies have played four of the bottom five in the Premier League and beaten only one of them.

Albion have not won game 8 of the season since 2011, a 2-0 victory over Wolves that was the Baggies’ first home victory of the season, and part one of that memorable double that helped relegate our Black Country rivals.
