West Bromwich Albion kick off the New Year with a trip to the London Stadium in the hope that 2018 will be a lot better than 2017 eventually turned out. It is a massive game for both clubs with Albion just one place and two points behind West Ham.
One record came to end on New Year’s Eve, but another didn’t. The Baggies’ winless run is extended to 20 games in all competitions, 19 in the Premier League, but their 56 game wait for a penalty finally came to an end against Arsenal.
Albion fans will not be sorry to see the end of 2017. A year that started with such promise is ending with the club battling against relegation and just two league wins since the beginning of April.
On Boxing Day, the news filtered out amongst the Albion community that Richard Eades, long time mascot at the Hawthorns, had tragically died in the early hours of the morning.
The Baggies did everything but score against Everton, but the club record winless run goes on now standing at 18 Premier League games, 19 overall.
