After 32 games last season, we had 32 points, one less than we do today. In our final six games of 2013/14, we managed to get 4 points, a draw against Spurs (after being 3-0 up) and a 1-0 win against West Ham – we lost our games at home to Stoke and away to Man City, Arsenal and Sunderland.
This season, our run-in is much tougher and, while we got five points from the equivalent fixtures last season, that comprised of a win at Old Trafford and home draws with Chelsea and Liverpool. United and Chelsea are much stronger now, and we also caught Liverpool on an off day last season at the beginning of February – those were the last points they dropped until the infamous slip by Steven Gerrard.
It says a lot when the common belief is that a trip to St James’s Park is probably our best chance of getting points! Here’s hoping that 33 points is enough to stay up this season!
