Albion’s Promotion Challenge Season Comparison – 19 games

Published on: Author: Jon Want

Albion produced a hard-fought victory at the Liberty Stadium to make it back to back away wins for the first time since they won at Old Trafford and St James’s Park in April, and the joint longest run of successive league victories for the first time since Steve Clarke’s team won four in a row in November 2012.

There were some excellent performances from Hegazi, Dawson, Livermore, Rodriguez and Robson-Kanu, and the defence produced a second half display that even Tony Pulis would have been proud of. Phillips and Barnes were fairly quiet, although Barnes produced the moment of the match in the second half with a little trickery and a curled shot that thumped the inside of the post.

While there was no clean sheet, it was the sort of performance that Darren Moore’s team seemed incapable of producing a few short weeks ago and it moves the Baggies into fourth place, three points behind leaders, Norwich City, with two home games to come.

When compared with previous promotion campaigns, Darren Moore’s side is now fourth best behind Di Matteo’s team of 2009, Megson’s 2003 team and Mowbray’s 2007 Championship winners.
